XPENG RELEASES SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVES DRIVING EXPERIENCE
Based on valuable feedback from European customers and journalists, XPENG’s internal ADAS team has developed a software update that will significantly improve the ADAS ( Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) functionality and the overall driving experience of the XPENG P7 and G9. These improvements will be part of an over-the-air (OTA) update that will be released to all European XPENG owners in March 2024. As always, XPENG’s OTA updates are free and worry-free – no trip to the workshop is required. Earlier this year, XPENG offered some Danish journalists who had expressed concerns the opportunity to test this software and provide feedback to further improve the software update. Their first feedback is positive, as you can read in this article from the Danish ‘Motormagasinet’ (behind a paywall):

Key points from the article.
- “Since the beginning of December 2023, a team of five to six people from XPENG’s ADAS team led by Dr. Jun Ma (Senior Director) has been in Denmark to extensively test the new software under European (traffic) conditions. Ma is affiliated with the Autonomous Driving Center, with more than 1,000 R&D employees in China and 50 in Silicon Valley (USA) and Munich (Germany).”
- “He and his team have had a handful of test cars and have driven extensively on Danish roads with XPENG’s Danish employees.”
- “The warning sounds have been enormously reduced. In other words: you no longer end up in a cacophony if you exceed the speed limit or if the assistance systems are switched off. The car also no longer has difficulty following the lines and stays nicely in the middle off the roadway.”
- “He no longer swerved to the side of the road, forcing the driver to correct and disabling the assistance system.”
- “Along a stretch of road where cars were parked along the side, the car braked once. Jun Ma still found this unacceptable and said he would resolve the issue.”
- “Jun Ma says XPENG is close to closing a deal with a global mapping provider for European roads, where map data will provide information such as speed limits that the car will then adjust to.”
- “Jun Ma says the software update will be implemented in Europe in March. It will be done over-the-air, so the cars don’t need to visit a workshop.”
Full details of the improvements will be announced when the software update rolls out in March.
